About Austin, TX vs Virginia Beach, VA... which one feels hotter in the summer

Austin, TX vs Virginia Beach, VA... which one feels hotter in the summer?
So I lived in Austin, it was pretty hot and humid. I was thinking of heading to Virginia along the coast and the people I know there say its hot and humid. I plan to do alot of work outdoors, so just wondering if Virginia Beach FEELS hotter or cooler than Austin? My only real concern is which one will suck most to work outdoors in... Austin was pretty miserable in the summer.

Answer 1 :
Austin is definitely hotter than Virginia Beach, the east coast is hot, but generally cooler than western states.
Answer 2 :
= We stayed in a Marriott in Virginia Beach, not actually on the beach. We also stayed in a nice hotel on the North side, nearer the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. I did not actually stay in Myrtle Beach. We stayed a few miles up the coast in Emerald Isle, NC...but, we visited Myrtle Beach a few times. I'll take a slight risk. I'll answer your Q and then give you my candid opinion/recommendation. Feel free to disregard the latter, especially if you are looking for a different beach experience than one I typically seek. OK. If you are tied to one or the other of these 2 destinations, I recommend Myrtle Beach. But, to me the 2 places have more in common than they do differences. They are both: Beautiful beaches, especially if you like to get up at the crack of dawn and take it in when there are only a few dozen other folks on the beach Crowded--beach and town Hotel-oriented, as opposed to rental condo/house oriented Full of more miniature golf venues per square mile than probably anywhere else in the US of A (actually, Myrtle Beach probably has a leg up on this) Loaded with lots of family seafood restaurants I could go on. If that is what you want, these 2 destinations are excellent. Let me use a metaphor. Let's say you are a bath person. Every day you take a bath. You fill up the water, you get in, you wash yourself and you get out and dry off. Then, once in a very long while, you treat yourself to a wonderful bath experience. You bring out some special bath salts or soaps, you light a candle or two, and you slither into this bath for a totally different, relaxing experience. It's the same tub. You are the same person. The water is the same. But, with a few appointments, the experience can be quite different. Personally, I am a shower guy. But, where I am trying to go with this is that if you drive all the way across NC to get to some of the nicest beaches in the US, you can take a regular bath, or you can take a more relaxing bath. And, while you certainly could, you don't have to spend your retirement savings in the process.

I don't live in VA Beach, but I had the same issue. Coupled with the fact that I cannot be motivated to drive to the gym everyday. I ended up getting a total gym.. just one of the less expensive models. I went thru this site: http://tvgyms.com They have a lot to choose from, as well as some bowflex models and livestrong too. I have been using it since january when I had my son, and I only have 5 more pounds to lose until pre-pregnancy weight :)

It can be pretty reasonable, especially if you're driving rather than flying. It's a very nice area and close to other things to see like Williamsburg.

About Massage therapists in Virginia and/or Virginia Beach - where is a great place to work

Massage therapists in Virginia and/or Virginia Beach - where is a great place to work?
What do they charge to work there? Are there benefits? What did/do you like/dislike? 5 stars to the most detailed answer. There are many places in my area to work but I just wanted to get a better grasp of the best places and what they offer, based on experiences of massage therapists. For example, what do they charge - commision or room rent? Some places have a flat fee, others will charge commision (for example, one place starts at 45%) I just wanted a rough idea. The websites and employers can say a lot of positive things about themselves but I wanted to hear personal experiences.

Answer 1 :
for your question no extra charge as I know; definitely benefits is bound with charge; I prefer to Virginia; I hope the answer will do you a favor!
Answer 2 :
That is the research you need to do to find a place to work. Each place will be different and you can negotiate something different for yourself after you create a plan to promote yourself. Find out what you want and also figure out what you will do for the business to increase it's profit and prove to the employer you are worth what you are asking to be paid and the benefits you request.
Answer 3 :
If you're in Virginia Beach, get into contact with the Edgar Cayce school and see if they have a mailing list or help wanted bulletin board you can access. Or if you don't mind the drive, the Institute of Health and Healing is in Newport News and they do have both a physical bulletin board and an email help-wanted mailing list. As far as what to look for in this area, the going rate seems to be in the neighborhood of $60 per service hour, and most places do commission split 50%. I wouldn't take anything less. And watch out for product charges because some places will charge you like $3 for product and that comes off your commission. There's no way you use $3 worth of oil in one hour of massage, I'm sorry. Hardly any massage jobs offer benefits, so I wouldn't look for them.

Thinking about relocating to Hampton Roads/Virginia Beach area with hubby and school age kids. Any advice?
Moving from southwest PA, looking for good schools, reasonable cost of living, cultural and ethnic diversity. Will likely work in norfolk at the Va Beach border.

Answer 1 :
it depends were he or you will be working. traffic there is a bitch! live close to work You may want to rent for a short time give time to find the ''right house''
Answer 2 :
Traffic is horrible. make sure you do not have to drive on I64 between 2:30 and 6 or drive through the downtown or midtown tunnel between 7 and 9 AM or 2:30-6 PM. Va beach is the largest city in VA in population and has the 2nd largest school system in VA. All of Va Beach's schools are fully accredited. Norfolk is an urban school system. It is one of the best urban school districts in the state. The cost of living is normal. Norfolk has two great colleges, Old Dominion University and Norfolk State University. Virginia Wesleyan College and Regent University are in VA Beach. This area is diverse.
Answer 3 :
If you have small children stay away from this area it is known as the pedophile capitol o the country. The only place worse is ashtabula ohio which has had an unussual increase in pedophilia case in the past 6 months or so.

My employer is in Virginia Beach, VA but I will be living in California. What financial implications are ther?
We will be relocating to California next year. I currently work at home for my current employer and would like to continue to work at home in California. My employer is based in Virginia Beach, VA. I've been told that they must pay $10,000 annually and set up a trust fund bank account. I'd like to know if this is correct or what the actual requirements are.

I'm not sure what you're talking about. $10,000 account for what? Trust fund bank account for what purpose? You can work anywhere for anyone as long as they authorize it.

About What is a good school or school district to work for in south eastern Virginia

What is a good school or school district to work for in south eastern Virginia?
I'm looking to move closer to my mom, probably in the Virginia Beach area, but I'll also go as far north as Williamsburg or as far south as northern North Carolina. I'm not from that area, and I dread getting stuck in a negative atmosphere or somewhere where teachers aren't supported. ANY advice would help narrow my search..

Both Williamsburg and James City are very nice school districts. I have heard interesting things about Newport News, Hampton Roads, et al. I think that you should avoid Portsmouth. Sadly, all of the teachers that I know have permanent positions locally. I can recommend Hanover, Henrico, and Chesterfield. My friends to talk positively about Williamsburg and James City, but they only tell me about the rumors of the cities in the area of Hampton Roads. I do not know what the schools are like in Virginia Beach. I hope that this helps. Good luck!

About How is this for good news Beach system for illegal workers would affect about 175 vendors we making progress

How is this for good news Beach system for illegal workers would affect about 175 vendors we making progress?
In about a week, Beach officials will be given the authority to audit new contractors to ensure they don't hire illegal workers. But many of the details - including under what circumstances an investigation would be launched and what documents city officials will use to verify immigration status - remain unclear. "It's not mapped out exactly how we would do it," City Attorney Les Lilley said. The audits are part of guidelines announced by Beach officials and approved by the City Council last week. Vendors also will have to certify that they don't hire illegal immigrants. The clauses will be included in all new city contracts for more than $50,000 and will affect about 175 vendors who perform construction, software development, janitorial and landscape management work for Virginia Beach. The city has standards in place to deal with issues such as vendor complaints about the bidding process, but not immigration, said Joanne Griggs, Virginia Beach's auditor. "This is new territory," Griggs said. "I would want to make sure that we have a very tight process so the outcome is fair to any individual living and working in this city." Depending on the procedures, the city's four auditors might need some additional resources and training, Griggs said. This is the second policy targeting illegal immigration that Virginia Beach has adopted since two teens were killed last spring by a drunken driver who was an illegal immigrant. The case drew national media attention, and anti-illegal-immigration advocacy groups pressed city officials for action. In May, police officers began asking everybody they arrested whether they were in the country legally. Virginia Beach Sheriff Paul Lanteigne said the new policy might be the reason for the increasing number of illegal immigrants in the city's jail. In May, the jail housed 23 illegal immigrants; by October there were 72 illegal immigrants reported, Lanteigne said. Alicia Fernandez-Bobulinski, director of Hispanic outreach for the Making a Difference Foundation, said she has heard that officers are asking immigration status questions prior to making an arrest, in instances such as traffic stops. "Faith is being lost," Fernandez-Bobulinski said. "The administration is saying one thing, and another thing is happening on the street." http://hamptonroads.com/2008/01/beach-system-illegal-workers-would-affect-about-175-vendors

That's good, I lived in NoVA for a while and we where completely over run by them. Whenever I would go down to the Beach it fealt like I was back in America again (even though I lived 3 miles from the Capital) I'm glad that Virginia Beach won't become a third world city for a Little bit longer.

About Looking for a career in Virginia Beach, VA

Looking for a career in Virginia Beach, VA?
Hello all. I relocated to Virginia Beach, VA about two years ago and I have held a few temp jobs since then. Prior to that I worked at a large insurance company up north. I am wondering where young professionals work in the area. I have been somewhat surprised by the lack of career type positions here. Most jobs I have come across are just that, J-O-B-S. I have a bachelors degree with a major in Spanish. I have several years of experience handling insurance claims. What companies do young professionals work at in Virginia Beach? What clubs or groups should I join that would allow me to meet other young professionals?
